50 Years of Alaska Marine Higways Service - Travels to Tracy Arm Fjord

On Saturday, May 4th Mark and I traveled aboard the M/V Malaspina Ferry on a special cruise to the Tracy Arm Fjord. The Alaska Marine Highway system was celebrating 50 years of service and we were two of about 400 people lucky enough to join in the celebration.

Traveling through ice bergs!

Mark has connections! We were brought to the bridge to see the Captain in action :)

Special painted gold stack

Our fearless Captain
We couldn't get all the way to the glacier due to the amount of ice bergs in the water but it was pretty incredible!

There were special events - such as Alaskan Native Dancers on the car deck

Sitka's New Archangel Dancers

FRB (Fast Rescue Boat) taking video footage, picking up some ice and checking out how far the ferry could make it.

Nothing like hanging out on the side of a boat!

There was a lot wildlife around - seals, bears, goats and birds.

Black Bear

Breath taking!

A lot of ice in the water!
Thank you Mark for getting us on this cruise - totally worth it! It was beautiful beyond words. Plus the quite time together was a bonus :)
