Travels to Washington - Lynden

After an awesome weekend with Uncle Todd and Auntie Randi we were back on the road, heading north this time to Lynden. Our kids are not used to long car rides, good nap time! Our first adventure - the Northwest Washington (NWW) Fairgrounds! My Uncle Shane was in the demolition derby as well as sponsored a group of demo cars. We went to support him and get in on the action :) Caitlin was ready!Andrew watched intently, these were cars crashing - can you tell he was excited! One of Uncle Shane's cars - #35 Go New York Life! All lined up and ready to go!
HOORAY!!
As you can see we all have matching shirts :) They are similar to the Monster drink logo but are actually NYL (or New York Life!) Pretty cool!! Caitlin found her Auntie Chelsea~
Awwww! Mark's first time at a demo derby and the NWW Fair! After the first heats were complete we headed off to the many bars to see farm animals! Our cousin Taylor had a pig entered in and she let us have an up close experience with her pig :)Andrew was into checking it out but maybe not getting in the pig pen like his sister! There were very large Clydesdale horses all dressed up and ready to preform! Our cousin Kally and Caitlin~Driving a tractor - SO HAPPY!Caitlin found another tractor to try out~ Buckled up for stafety and all :)There was so much to see - animals, tractors, yummy food vendors! We went to the demo derby in the evening for the finals - no pictures taken (sorry). But on a happier note, my Uncle Shane's derby cars did great!
For the first few days while we were in Lynden, Guela hosted us at her house! Slumber Party!! Caitlin loved staying at all the new places :) Uncle Steve and Aunt Becky live next door to Guela and one afternoon they invited us to come along on a little tour of new Enfield Farms processing building! Mark was looking cool enough in his shades and hair net!! LOL!Flash frozen raspberries~Uncle Steve was showing Mark a really "cool" time! This is the flash freezer (there might be a more technical name for the thing - but basically it froze the berries), when he opened the door you were hit with a blast of below freezing cold air! Thanks for the tour Uncle Steve! And thank you for the relaxing time with your company and Guela's company, on your amazing patio/deck!We spent some time with cousins Brock and Bryce at their Million Smiles park!Cheese!!Choo-Choo Train down the slide (funny I just noticed they are in the order of their age - Brock, Caitlin, Bryce and then Andrew is back there!!) ~Our little monkey~Just a swinging!Auntie Chelsea came to join in on the fun~Later that afternoon we headed to my sister Tasha's house, she has the coolest slide ever!! You can climb and slide! On 2 slides that go into a pool!I love this action shot - see the water splashing at the bottom!Drying off in the sun and time for a snack~Back to the pool/slide!! Fun in the sun, we Alaskans love the SUN!!We headed back to the NWW Fairgounds for day two. . . time to see more baby animals~
Baby chicks~Baby calves~
Not shown - lambs, goats, piglets, ponies, bunnies, kittens, and so much more! And then it was time. . . . for RIDES!!
Put your hands up in the air!
Even Mark got in on the action! (for some reason tonight, songs keep popping into my head! You spin me right round baby right round!!)
Wooohooo! GIANT slide!
The carousel with Bryce and Chelsea (Brock was on there too. . . somewhere!)Even Andrew woke up from a nap and joined in on the ride action~Cheese for the mom's! Wanted?? Yes! Who wouldn't want these two adorable kids!?I'd say this was the favorite ride for the kids, Bryce was cracking us up as they went around! First off, how they managed to get all three onto a space for two kids amazed us, but look at their faces! Priceless! And the Ferriswheel! The boys - Uncle Mark with Brock and Bryce~The girls - Auntie Chelsea with Caitlin~A sparkly butterfly face painting for an adorable little girl~And this is how you end the day! Crashed out in your car seat :) I think she had some fun. . .While at the fair we also took an opportunity to get a family photo taken - costumes and all!! This was a great idea Mark - doesn't it look authentic! Bath time with Auntie Chelsea!! Time for a little hair do??
Anutie Shannon had just gone back to work while we were visiting and she let us watch Baby Joie one day :) She is such a sweet little girl and Caitlin loved to be the big helper.
There is nothing better than fresh berries from Lynden and we took advantage of the beautiful sunny weather to go berry picking! Andrew wasn't too sure about this whole process . . you want me to pick a berry and put it in a basket?? He was liking the eating part a bit more :)
Ooooh! Look at the color coordinating on these girls!Joie came along with us :)Blueberries do not grow this big at home!!And now we're running away . . Catch me if you can!! Cheese! Strike that, I mean Blueberries!!
I think the final count was 10 lbs blueberries and 7 lbs black berries!! YUMMY! Then I was off to make blackberry jam :) Reading time with Papa~While we were visiting, we celebrated my Dad's 50th birthday!! And us kids "tried" to surprise him with a new BBQ grill for his big day :) I say tried because we (yes, I am including all of us in this!) kinda botched the delivery on how to get him outside to surprise him with the grill :) LOL! Anyways, HAPPY 50 th BIRTHDAY Dad!!

Ready for the BBQ party at the VanDalen's!?!?!We did have a very large birthday part for my dad out at the King Ranch. . . I was so busy visiting and keeping up with the kids, I failed at taking any pictures. Mom, you did an amazing job pulling this all together, the food was incredible and the setting perfect! Complete with long horn cattle and sunshine :)

The girl cousins, Baby Joie and Caitlin~ We did a bit more blackberry picking at my Uncle Steve's place :) My Mom babysat for us one evening so we could go on a date! We headed to the Bellingham Ferry Terminal to see the Columbia ferry that was in port :)
Beautiful evening by the water, delicious dinner at Dirty Dan's and a long drive along the water back to Lynden~ Back to the park - we like to wear these kids out :)

Thank you Guela for having us in your home~ We had a wonderful time and enjoyed your company!

Thank you Mom and Dad for also having us in your home and providing us with a vehicle~ We are so glad we were able to come and join in on the birthday, fair, crabbing and berry fun!

Love you all!
