September 2011 - Mendenhall Glacier, Home Projects & the Park

I am borrowing these pictures of the Mendenhall Glacier from my Dad and Mom. I did not go with my parents and Mark when they went on a little trip to the Mendenhall Glacier while visiting with us. My Dad or Mom took some really nice pictures and I wanted to share. The picture below is a rock face out near the falls - there is a white spot int the center, I believe this is a mountain goat :) We'll have to double check with my Dad, Mom or Mark but I'm fairly certain they spotted one :)
During the summer kids (an adults such as myself!) will swim in the pond along side the Mendenhall Lake. These pools tend to fill up with water from the spring rain and as summer progresses they disconnect from the lake where there are icebergs. . . that water is cold! These pools are warmer water :)

It's pretty neat to be able to just drive down the road from our house and see these creatures. So far I have not seen one in our neighborhood although I know they are around, very close :)
Oh and the home projects! While Mark and my Dad went moose hunting, my Mom and I visited and my Mom helped me with painting my ceilings! Not only did she help me with painting my ceilings, but she also completely re-painted my bedroom! I am SO lucky and blessed! She did an amazing job - very professional looking and she is fast :) I only have before pictures of the bedroom so I will have to put up a post on that later. But my Dad did take pictures of a second project - a new ceiling fan. While I took the kids to the big trucks, fire trucks and helicopter event - Mark, my Mom and Dad installed a new ceiling fan for me!

One afternoon my Mom and I went down town to do a little shopping and take a ride up the Mt Roberts Tramway. The weather was gorgeous that day and you could see for such a long ways~The downtown Juneau area and channel~
